Aurum Metallicum

Aurum metallicum man, extremely depressed mind..

There’s a great heaviness about aurum, a heaviness that is in most cases has been there since early childhood. There’s loathing of life in aurum.
For the Aurum individual, some degree of depression is a normal state of being. They do from time to time enter into deep and seemingly hopeless depressions, but even in between these episodes there is a feeling of a dark cloud continually hanging over them.

The Aurum child is extremely sensitive to criticism ( ‘Oversensitive’, ‘Ailments from scorn’), (‘Intolerant of contradiction’) since criticism from his parents implies that he has not pleased them, and hence is not loved by them. In order to avoid the pain of rejection, the child learns to do his best at all times. This produces a seriousness and a lack of spontaneity in the Aurum child, which usually progresses to feelings of depression and despair even before the child becomes an adult.

The emotional pain that the Aurum child experiences as a result of highly conditional parental love (or sometimes no love at all), is severe, and results in a protective walling off of the heart. Only by shutting down the emotions can Aurum avoid the hurt that is always there inside. Aurum learns early to be independent, to rely on nobody but himself, and to show no signs of weakness. In relationships he is inaccessible, never giving totally of himself, since that would open up the old wounds that never heal.
This is one of the loneliest of constitutional types, combining great sensitivity with fear of rejection.
Aurum is listed in black type in Kent’s repertory under the rubric ‘Forsaken feeling’. All Aurums were abandoned by their parents emotionally to some extent, and the feeling of being totally alone in the world never really leaves them.

He may gradually open up to his partner (the vast majority of Aurums are male), and if the relationship continues to go well the old walls of deliberate isolation will break down, and something of a healing may take place.
Aurum usually has a great deal of anger inside, as a result of the ‘neglect’ that he experienced as a child. Despite finding a loving relationship, the anger may remain, and come out in bursts of explosive temper from time to time. Since he is a sensitive man, and has known a great deal of emotional pain, he is liable to feel very guilty after these outbursts of temper (Kent: ‘Remorse’).

At such times there is a danger of Aurum entering into a profound depression. (This applies to the loss of any loved one, not just a partner.)

It is very important for many Aurums to have a prestigious position socially and professionally, and for this reason they often become workaholics. It’s a second most ambitious constitutional type after nux.
Aurum becomes ambitious as a reaction to parental pressure, and in order to compensate for the lack of self-worth that he feels deep inside his heart.

At work Aurum is totally one-pointed, allowing nothing to distract him from his goals.(driven, unstoppable machine )

He’s controlled person. He is one of the least spontaneous of all constitutional types.

Aurum seldom loses his temper, but when he does, it is very powerful (Kent: ‘Violent-vehement’). More often he bottles his anger inside, adding to the existing tension.

A few Aurum individuals manage, through introspection, to identify the childhood family dynamics which gave rise to their impoverished sense of self-worth.

When depressed, Aurum falls into a pit of despair, self-loathing (Kent: ‘Reproaches self’), self-recrimination, isolation and increasing mental paralysis. Nothing is blacker than the despair of Aurum.

Aurum is far more likely to kill himself during a suicide attempt than other depressive types . They’re more likely to use some violent method.
Aurum individual may see death as a comforting thought, an escape route to fall back on if life becomes too painful. Even in the absence of serious depression Aurum may think fondly of death.
Some Aurum people court death by engaging in dangerous pursuits like rock-climbing and motor racing.
Treading the tightrope between life and death the Aurum individual often feels most alive and carefree.

Night-time is the worst period for Aurum. At night, and also in winter, the descending darkness intensifies its reflection in Aurum’s psyche. It is likely that many of those who suffer from seasonal depressive illness would benefit from the remedy.

Although Aurum is a constitutional type, some depressed patients slip into an Aurum state who do not normally resonate to the Aurum wavelength. Many of the profoundly depressed patients in psychiatric wards would benefit from the remedy, including the female ones. All of the typical features of endogenous depression are found in the remedy picture. These include flat emotional expression, despair of recovery, sense of wretchedness (and hence of deserving punishment) and slowness of thinking. It is hard to reach the patient in such a state. They sit totally absorbed in their own tormented thoughts.

Aurum has a strong tendency to become obsessive mentally.

‘He imagines that he is wholly evil, is not worthy of salvation

In the early stages of Aurum’s depression he may mentally exaggerate all the problems he has, seeing relatively minor problems collectively as a mountain of trouble that there is no way to avoid, and being unable to stop worrying about them. This is just an exaggeration of Aurum’s usual pessimism, which is loath to recognise anything positive unless it is solid and dependable (like gold)
Aurum’s depression is full of intensity, a torture that results in increasingly insistent suicidal urges.

If was all about aurum metallicum. Comment your point of view…and suggest the next remedy…!!!
