Stramonium

Hallucinations, delusion, fear of darkness, rage of stramonium

Stramonium individuals are subject to all manner of terrors, delusions and hallucinations, and they usualy dread the night, because it is then that they become haunted by the horrors of their own subconscious mind. They will tell you that they hate sunset, because it heralds the beginning of the dark time. Stramonium children often have an extreme fear of the dark, and will not go into an unlit room. They sleep with a light on, and if they wake in a darkened room, they will see monsters in the dark (far more vividly than the wispy shadows seen by other children), and will scream and scream long after their parents have arrived and tried to soothe them. Stramonium has terrible night terrors- nightmares which continue after the child has awakened, whilst the child stares manically and screams like its life was about to be terminated. Adult Stramoniums are more prone than any other constitutional type to see faces, creatures and illusory people (He sees animals, ghosts, angels, departed spirits’)

It is curious that Stramonium is not only terrified of darkness and evil, but also fascinated by it.

Sudden switch from being a victim of terrifying visions to being controlled by them that makes Stramonium so dangerous, and gives the type its violent reputation.

There is no more violent type than Stramonium.
Stramonium children will bite, gauge and stab. There is no holding back when Stramonium ‘loses it’.
The rage is quite insane, and accompanied by a definite desire to maim or kill in many cases.
They simply switch from rage mode to normal mode, as if nothing has happened.
A trip to a long-term psychiatric ward would no doubt reveal many Stramonium patients, and they would be especially common in high security psychiatric wings of prisons. The rage that the Stramonium individual feels is often unfocussed; that is, the anger is not directed at anyone in particular. It appears as if they are ‘possessed’ by a force that is entirely impersonal. The same can be said of the terror that they feel, which is often unrelated to any specific fear, and the sexual desire, which will usually be unrelated to any attraction to anybody in particular.
Most psychotic remedy types are prone to intense sexual desire, and this is especially true of Stramonium.
Stramonium either has a feeling of pure overwhelming lust, or else lust mixed with rage.

Religiosity is almost as common as intense lust amongst psychotic types, and frequently the two are seen together. They are more liable to have been sexually abused as children.

Stramonium is very prone to hearing voices, and these voices are often quite consistent and have a personality of their own. The voices usually talk to the Stramonium person, sometimes giving orders or advice, other times mocking or abusing. The subject may believe that she is possessed by numerous entities, and tends to have little control over the voices, but may be able to resist their promptings.

Delusions are common in Stramonium individuals. Often the person has some insight, knowing that the belief is ‘silly’ or unlikely, but still it is clung to, at least to some extent.
Many of Stramonium’s delusions relate to being under attack in some way. Stramonium’s hallucinations are as varied and as bizarre as her delusions.

Stramonium is a long-term constitutional state, not just a temporary one.

We have already mentioned Stramonium’s fear of the dark. Another common phobia is tunnels. many Stramonium people dread going through tunnels, and feel panicky when they do so. Some will not travel in a train in case it goes through a tunnel. This fear appears to be closely related to the fear of darkness.
Another highly characteristic Stramonium fear is a fear of shining objects or of flickering light. Stramonium patients will report that they feel panicky in a moving car if sunlight is flickering in between a row of trees, or through a fence.
Another common fear is a fear of the colours red and black. These obviously suggest blood and violence and also darkness and evil, things that Stramonium individuals are often both terrified of and fascinated with.
Many Stramonium patients have a great fear of being alone. This is especially true when they are feeling anxious to start with.

Just as Stramonium people fear the night and all things evil, and yet are fascinated by them, so they hate bright light, and yet feel better in the daytime, and are soothed by spiritual and religious thoughts.
Many Stramonium people cling onto sanity and keep the terror at bay by praying fervently. Another aspect of the light/dark dichotomy is the tendency to feelings of euphoria. At times the Stramonium patient will feel very high, with a rush of energy, and a feeling of closeness to God.
Stramonium’s high spots tend to be less frequent than her downers.

Stramonium is prone to obsessive compulsive behaviour. Stramonium children will often have rituals that they must follow in order to avoid anxiety.

Stramonium children are usually hyperactive. They cannot keep still for long, and in the consulting room they will roam from one object to another, picking it up, putting it down, and going on to the next.
Generally their constant behaviour appears more purposeless.
In school they will tend to distract other children, and their concentration span is usually very short. The Stramonium adult is only hyperactive when in a manic phase, which is a minority of the time for those outside institutions.
